e.e.cummings

He's not the most beautiful guy on the planet I agree, but he's certainly one of the best and the most talented poets this world has ever seen. Together with William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, John Donne, George Herbert, Andrew Marvell and Edgar Allen Poe, e.e.cummings belongs to my favourite poets/writers.

I posted a quote of his a few weeks ago (if you remember...). But for today, I decided to pitch on some poems for you, some of my favourite e.e.cummings poems. Should you wonder about the many many brackets, the spelling, the form and format of the poem and the seemingly nonsensical language - this is intended! And this is exactly why his poetry is so amazingly genious.

Sit back and enjoy:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

                                    i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If freckles were lovely, and day was night,
And measles were nice and a lie warn't a lie,
                    Life would be delight,--
                    But things couldn't go right
For in such a sad plight
              I wouldn't be I.

If earth was heaven and now was hence,
And past was present, and false was true,
                    There might be some sense
                    But I'd be in suspense
                    For on such a pretense
              You wouldn't be you.

If fear was plucky, and globes were square,
And dirt was cleanly and tears were glee
                    Things would seem fair,--
                    Yet they'd all despair,
                    For if here was there
              We wouldn't be we.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

be of love(a little)
More careful
Than of everything
guard her perhaps only

A trifle less
(merely beyond how very)
closely than
Nothing,remember love by frequent

anguish(imagine
Her least never with most
memory)give entirely each
Forever its freedom

(Dare until a flower,
understanding sizelessly sunlight
Open what thousandth why and
discover laughing)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

i love you much(most beautiful darling)

more than anyone on the earth and i
like you better than everything in the sky

-sunlight and singing welcome your coming

although winter may be everywhere
with such a silence and such a darkness
noone can quite begin to guess

(except my life)the true time of year-

and if what calls itself a world should have
the luck to hear such singing(or glimpse such
sunlight as will leap higher than high
through gayer than gayest someone's heart at your each

nearness)everyone certainly would(my
most beautiful darling)believe in nothing but love

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

you shall above all things be glad and young.
For if you're young, whatever life you wear
it will become you;and if you are glad
whatever's living will yourself become.

Girlboys may nothing more than boygirls need:
i can entirely her only love.

whose any mystery makes every man's
flesh put space on;and his mind take off time
that you should ever think, may god forbid
and (in his mercy) your true lover spare:

for that way knowledge lies, the foetal grave
called progress,and negation's dead undoom.

I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

His poems are so wonderful that some people used his words for their tattoos. A very nice idea compared to all the ugly tattoos that are out there. I could totally imagine a phrase like "be of love(a little) More careful" in a pretty font tattooed across the outer rist of my foot.

triple-chip-"thank-you"-cookies

I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks. - William Shakespeare

---------------

Saying thank you to someone is very important to me. It's a sign that you are grateful for something somebody did for you. And it also shows that you not taking everything for granted.

I needed to say thank you to a friend who helped me out a great deal lately. What better way to say thank you than with a handful of homemade cookies?! Exactly. None!

Inspired by this recipe from Bakerella, I flew (...well, not exactly, but that doesn't matter, right?! it sounds so much more dramatic than "went". and so much more fun, too! but anyway... where were we? ahhh..) ...I flew into the kitchen without further ado. 20 minutes later these super delicious cookies with three kinds of chips were ready to be served. And to be given away!

They were sooooo extraordinarily and dangerously yummy, I could have eaten all of them in one night... Luckily I didn't! Otherwise my shorts wouldn't be my friends anymore.

chocolate covered pretzel sticks

Desperately in need of a birthday present and with a serious lack of time, I combed through the internet the other day. Before I found anything inspiring, a friend of mine recommended me this link. I fell head over heels in love with the idea of chocolate covered or rather dipped pretzels (soooo very american!). Thus, I decided to venture on unknown territory and just try my luck with these funny treats.

The idea is simple and the implementation even more so. Melt some chocolate, dip pretzels or in my case pretzel sticks into it, cover it with all sorts of sugary decoration and then put in a glass and let cool (in the fridge). And you are done!

Decorated with a cute ribbon, a mason jar full of these pretzels makes a very cute center piece on a table and of course a very nice present too. All I can say is that they were gone in a blink of an eye, so well were they received at the party!

And for those who still wonder whether salty and sweet is that good a mix or not - be told that it is actually very tasty. Trust me! You'll love it!

must haves for fall

This year, summer is a bitch! I'm sorry for my language but it's true! 15°C and rain for the last three weeks and now?! Yeah... exactly: a heat wave is on its way. I can't believe this!

Sorry, I could go on like this for a while but I promised myself not to be too occupied with the weather - we can't change it anyway! But still, summer is over for me. And fall is adumbrating itself whether or not you like it. Ha!

If I would judge the seasons, fall would definitively be my favourite. Wearing tights in all colours again, drinking hot chocolate and tea, wearing hoodies, cuddling up on the sofa with a good book, wearing boots again, lighting up candles, wearing cuddly scarves and caps, spending the evenings inside watching dvds and series without having a bad conscience and baking super sweet chocolatey treats again...

As we keep on sweating, I will keep on dreaming about the changing leaves, the early morning fog and the cheek-reddening storms... these are my must haves for this years fall:

against all uniformity

I love to do things on my own - with my own hands. It gives me the feeling of being of use. And it is really satisfying. It normally doesn't matter what it is I'm doing - it might be trying out a great new dessert, creating a wonderful brithday wish card, starting with a new painting or any other dyi stuff. The main thing is that I can get my hands dirty. I really love to have colour, glitter and glue all over me ;)

Me and my boyfriend - mostly him though - have been feeling of use lately. Meaning that we have been doing some things for our appartment. These things make our home unique and special.

And in every piece is a tiny piece of us.
I like that thought a lot.
It makes us some kind of allies... we against the world.
We and our pretty little home against all conformity and uniformity.

Bikes & Boats (or Amsterdam Part 2)

Ships are the nearest things to dreams that hands have ever made.
Robert N. Rose
--------

At least, men seem to think so. They are utterly fascinated with boats & ships and everything nautical. I guess, they would all be living at sea if they could. Obviously, they have a very, very  romanticized view of a life at sea: only water in all directions, weeks and weeks of loneliness with only the calm sea as company, a huge wooden home moving only because of their musclular strength and their will and - best of all - no women in sight, no talking, no criticizing.

Yeah, all right. Dream on, guys! You're not Popeye the Sailorman and you never will be...

I guess they know it and that's why they seize every opportunity to dream about a life they will never have. As long as they take nice pictures that's fine with me *grin*
And I have to admit that I have been thinking about living a life as a pirate more than once... (but without Jack Sparrow that's only half as promising).

For those of you who are either not male or not into ships, I added some bikes :)

Impressions (or Amsterdam Part 1)

I don't feel like talking/writing too much right now... that's why the pictures have so speak for themeselves. Which, I guess, they do. Amsterdam was just amazing, I would go there again anytime!
